COMMUNION INSTRUCTIONS

COMMUNION WILL BE PREPARED
AND CLEANED UP BY SERVING ELDERS

All preparation takes place in the sacristy.

Communion is by INTINCTION (dipping of the bread into the wine) for all services unless otherwise instructed. Grape juice and wine will be used.

The gray/blue plates, cups, and baskets used for communion are found in the bottom right hand cupboard in the sacristy (the room behind the Sanctuary). One plate, cup, and the pitcher may be found on the communion table in the Sanctuary. Communion napkins are found in a drawer marked “communion linens”. A white tablecloth should be placed on the communion table for the Sunday services. This tablecloth is hanging in the closet in the sacristy (room behind the sanctuary). All the bread, wine, and juice will be on the sacristy counter. There is a knife, a corkscrew, and a wine stopper in the drawer marked “utensils”.
For All Sunday Services:
  1. Please use fresh wine and bread at each service.
  2. Take two loaves of bread, cut halfway through from the bottom of the loaf and place on the plates, and then cover each with a napkin.
  3. Please use the colored napkins that correspond to the liturgical season of the year (there is a calendar inside the left upper cabinet door that will tell you what the colors are). The napkins can be found in the drawer marked “Communion Linens”.
  4. Fill the pitcher about half full with grape juice. Fill one cup with a “J” on the bottom stem 2/3 full with grape juice. The other cup with a “J” on the bottom stem should be left empty. Fill the two cups with a “W” on the bottom stem 2/3 full of wine.
  5. Place the two plates of bread in the center of the communion table. Place one “W" cup and one “J” cup on one side of the communion table and the other “W” cup and the empty “J” cup on the other side. The pitcher with the juice should be placed next to the empty “J” cup.
  6. Place a folded napkin next to each cup.
  7. Enjoy worship.
  8. Follow the after service clean up procedure at the end of these instructions.
CLEAN UP INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. After each service, return everything to the sacristy.
  2. If the napkins have severe stains that can’t be hidden by refolding, use new napkins.
  3. After the 11:00 Sunday service any leftover bread and grape juice may be given away. Wine should be recapped and left in the sacristy. There is a wine capper in the top drawer marked “utensils”.
  4. The cups, plates, and pitcher should be washed out and placed back in the bottom right hand cupboard in the sacristy. All linens should be placed in the hamper in the sacristy marked “COMMUNION LINENS”.
  5. After the 11:00 service, place one cup, the pitcher, and one plate back on the communion table.
Thank you very much for serving your church in this quiet
and behind-the-scenes way. It is much appreciated!
