USHER INSTRUCTIONS
(8:15 and 11:00 services)

Thank you for your help in serving as ushers for RCLPC. Being a church usher is a very important ministry. Very often the usher is the first person the worshiper meets when entering the church.

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Arrive 20 minutes early.
  2. Check with pastor for possible changes or special instructions
  3. Preparations:
    1. Turn on all sanctuary lights: switches are on the wall in narthex near organ
    2. Turn on lights aimed at cross: switch is on left side of archway in front of sanctuary
    3. Light candles: lighter is located behind the big Bible under the cross
    4. Turn on lights in back 2 windows by right aisle. The switch is right there.
    5. Turn fans on. The 3 switches are located in back closet. The top two you turn to match the red markings. The bottom one you need to press to turn on and off.
    6. EARLY SERVICE ONLY: Turn elevator lights on.
  4. Hand out bulletins
  5. RING BELL WHEN RICHARD GIVES YOU THE SIGNAL
  6. Count the congregation during the first hymn by walking down the aisle. Write count down in folder on table in the bell tower narthex next to the organ
  7. Receive offering: For those that do not have kids helping, before the service starts is a good time to ask other members to help with the offering. This is never a problem.
    1. two ushers down the center aisle, one down each side aisle
    2. two ushers bring offering forward during the doxology; after the Lords Prayer, return to back
    3. sort out prayer request cards and then hand to pastor after the service or place in the secretary's inbox in the office.

    LATE SERVICE USHERS ONLY:
  8. After congregation leaves, clean up:
    1. rearrange books so Bibles are in the middle
    2. turn off lights, fans, blow out candles
    3. close up elevator and turn off lights
    4. pick up attendance sheets and put in the church office. Remember to count choir members!
    5. ushers are last to leave the sanctuary
  9. Please remain on duty the entire service--you can sit in the back once everything is underway.
REMEMBER -- You are the "Host/ess" for our church, and especially for our guests. It is a very important ministry. Thanks again for your willingness to serve.

Important--When you get this schedule, please check the date you agreed to serve on. If you are not able to serve on your scheduled Sunday, please check with other people on this list to see if you can switch Sundays. When you switch, please notify the church office and let them know for the Order of Worship.
