NewWay Ushering Instructions

Thank you for ushering at the NewWay service. The following should help your morning run more smoothly.
  • Arrive early and check with pastor for possible changes and/or special instructions

  • Make sure that programs are available at each entrance

  • Be a welcoming presence, particularly for those who are new to the 9:30 am service

  • RING BELL WHEN RICHARD GIVES YOU THE SIGNAL

  • Be available to help worshipers when needed: seating, paper and pencils for children, directions to church locations

  • Before the service, ask for help with the collection so that there are three people ready. George Schieler, Scott Quackenbush, and John and Nancy Delware are always ready to help if there's no one you feel comfortable asking.

  • Check the bulletin ahead of time to see when in the service the offering will be taken. The offering at NewWay is collected with baskets that are located on the table outside the sanctuary doors. One person goes down the center aisle and one down each side aisle. After the offering is collected, please sort out any prayer request cards and pass them along to the pastor. The offering is then placed in the pouch and put in the white lock box in the closet. (The offering is not brought forward at the NewWay service.)

  • After the service begins, count all people at the service. Include children, pastor, musicians, and tech people. Record this on the attendance sheet in the usher folder located on the table outside the sanctuary (organ side).

  • Be ready to collect the offering at the appropriate time--one person down the center and one on each side. After offering is collected, sort out prayer request cards and hand to pastor after the service or take to office and put in the secretary's inbox. Put the collection in a bank bag and place in locked box inside the closet.

  • On communion Sundays (usually the first Sunday of each month), check the lounge to see if there are worshipers who wish to receive communion and let the elders know.

  • After the service, pick up any items that were left behind in the pews.
Everyone involved in making the NewWay service a success thanks you for serving as an usher. Your welcoming presence at the NewWay service is a vital part of our church's ministry. We really do appreciate your willingness to serve and your help in creating a friendly, welcoming presence to all who attend our service!!

Important--When you get this schedule, please check the date you agreed to serve on. If you are not able to serve on your scheduled Sunday, please check with other people on this list to see if you can switch Sundays. When you switch, please notify the church office and let them know for the Order of Worship.
